New music classes starting 16th September September 2021
45 minute sessions suitable for children aged 4 to 11 who love singing, would like to learn an instrument or already learn an instrument.
The sessions take place on Thursdays and there are currently spaces available for the 4pm and 5pm groups. The 4pm group is for children aged 4-6 years old and the 5pm group is for children between 7 – 11 years old starting their music education journey as well as those who have already started.
The sessions are £7.50 per class paid termly. Terms are usually 10 weeks but the Autum term will be 11 weeks and the first session will be free. There is a £5 discount per term for siblings and a £5 discount for payment before 16th September. Should Covid-19 cause classes to stop in person, there will be an online alternative.
These classes are based on the Hungarian pedagogy of Zoltan Kodály and offer a well structured framework for learning many of the skills involved in being a musician meaning that they will progress much quicker in instrumental lessons if they choose to take up an instrument. This approach was also in the national news a few years ago because of a Primary School in Bradford:https://www.theguardian.com/education/2017/oct/03/school-results-music-bradford and it is also used by the National Youth Choirs of Scotland.
The classes are taught by Rebecca Willson who has over 10 years experience as a teacher and has trained with the British Kodály Academy.
